Drafting and Planning: Creative NME/Q Task

This is the magazine cover i created on paint.net. i used the tools to make my cover look like a realistic cover. I used three layers, two of which were the same and one just had the Q logo. I brought Lisa Hannigan in front of the Q logo but so you could still see the logo with a part of Lisa's head covering it. i did this to demonstrate my ability in using paint.net and how i can use it in the future to do more covers of mine own. It also gave me a greater understanding of how magazine covers are made and what is needed in them.

Layout
this layout is very basic but very organised. it gives more information then the last one. the contents have been split into four categories. there is even a review underneath the large image of Adele.  Adele is a very popular Star and therefore would spur on a reader's curiosity.

photography
Adele is making eye contact with the reader and is the largest image on the page. this is to emphasise how popular and big of a star she is. the slide that is called 'Women in Music' is coloured grey to show how it is based on women and not both genders. it is made to stand out. the central image implies the genre is pop and that the magazine is targeted towards females because of the 'Women In Music' article.

colour scheme
the colours used here works really well. the use of dark colours shows a level of professionalism in Adele's music and the colours work well together as the compliment each other

Photography
The main cover star 'Kanye West' can be seen in a serious, simplistic and formal pose with both hands in his cardigan pockets. however we can see what appears to be a women's arm coming from behind him holding a love heart which is the only colour on this cover. it is placed on Kanye's heart which may suggest he does not have a heart as it is outside his body. another interpretation is that someone is trying to catch kanye's heart or his heart is the only colour and 'vibrancy' left in him

Layout
the layout is very basic. we can see all the contents on the right side of the page and are split into the two parts. 'Fashion' and 'Features'. this helps the reader navigate their way around the magazine. the women's are is effective because it is very unusual.

Colour Scheme
the colour scheme is black and white which may show that Kanye is very serious about his music career. the part that is a different colour is the heart which may be very important and shows that this is an important thing in kanye's love life.

Kayne is making eye contact which could possible make the readers feel they have to look at the contents instead of at him as it is a very intimating look.

This cover i like a lot. The colour scheme is very basic using only a maximum of 4 colours. the  contrast between the black and white works really well. we could also pick out that the shapes around Nicki's eyes are similar to the design on her tongue and on the sweet she is eating. the purple colour also really stands out aswell making it the cover have a very good balance of colour

I really like this cover, and before you ask no, its not because i share my first name with 'THE NEW KING OF POP'. I actually like this cover because the colour isn't too vibrant which gives a very  formal look at the magazine. the background isn't just white but has a pattern on it. also 'Adam Levine' is the largest piece of text on there to show how big he is.

The reason I have picked this magazine cover as my first magazine cover is because I think the colour scheme works really well. I think the white background really helps to make the text around Kanye West stand out.I also think the colours they have chosen for the heading and sub-heading work really well together. They make the cover vibrant. The shade of blue they have used matches that to Kanye's jacket collar.
